The community of Kangiqsujuaq

Culture

The community of Kangiqsujuaq (the large bay) occupies an exceptional site, 10 km from Nuvummiut Imarppinga (Hudson Strait), on the southern shore of the Bay which gave it its name. It is situated in a scenic glacial valley surrounded by mountains.

The Tarramiut (people of the north) occupied the south coast of Nuvummiut Imarppinga from Ivujivik to Quaqtaq. Most lived in small groups of 10 to 15 people and about half of their population lived at Kangiqsujuaq – the part of the area richest in resources.
